Health and Safety Officer (40 hours)
Health and Safety Officer (HSO) is an OSFM certification course developed to assist those assigned to this important and required administrative safety position. The course will help students understand the skills and knowledge required for this position. Those attending this course should have responsibility in this area and want to participate in relevant training on the many responsibilities of this position. Specific topics will include: • Roles, Responsibilities and Resources for the HSO • Safety Program Development • Risk Management • Information Management • Pre- and Post-Incident Safety • Department Infection Control Procedures • Behavioral Health Issues Related to Firefighting • Long Term Health Issues Related to Fire Smoke and PPE • Legal Issues Related to the Role of HSO • Managing a line of duty death • In-Class HSO discussions • Student review of your department’s safety program

This is an Office of the State Fire Marshal Certification Course. Prerequisite for OSFM certification is Fire Officer I./Company Fire Officer. HSO is a prerequisite to obtain the OSFM Fire Department Safety Officer Certification. |
